The Man that ran beside my car

When I was 6 years old until maybe 10 years old, I always saw a man running beside my car. Sometimes he was a boy, sometimes an older man. I'd watch him jump on electric posts and swing to the next one, running as fast as he could to stay at pace with the car. Sometimes he ran on two legs, sometimes he ran on all fours. He was always smiling and looking at me, never looked away while he did his crazy acrobatics.
Of course, this was all in my head (Heck it was the closest thing I had to an imaginary friend) but it felt really... surreal. Best way to describe it, it felt like I was in a trance when I watched him, like I could do it for hours upon hours. I felt safe, and it was funny to watch him, I was so amused it put me in a "trance" and I wouldn't look away until, poof, he was gone, and so was the trance attached to him.

The thing is, I don't know why it started. I consider myself a really creative person, but I don't remember creating him. I don't remember the specific idea of creating a character who ran beside me as fast as he could, never looking away, always smiling and making me feel special. I never thought of that, I just have memories of me looking out my car window and suddenly going "Wow, look at that man outside." He just appeared. Some days he was there, some days he wasn't. That's what I recall from my childhood memory.

But then, I got older. I rarely thought about the man that ran beside my car. I hadn't seen him for years, only remembered that I had seen him. More time passed and I almost forgot about his existence entirely, until late January 2016. I was on lunch break at my old job, scrolling through Tumblr to pass the time, when I saw this post: ... inacentury

You will need to take the time to read it so you can understand the rest of this real story.

The minute I read the post it was like time froze and my brain was doing some serious reality-checking. Other people saw him too? I did more research and found thousands of people saw him. All with the similar idea, something connected all of the sitings, even if it was just one similarity.

How many of us are out there? What really is the underlying psychology behind all this? Is it just imagination, and a coincidence that many more people dreamed up the same thing, with the same rules?

Did you ever see a man that ran beside your car?

Thought I was the only one, and when does he stop running? Why does he stop running?

Oh, i saw this guy too. I had to take the greyhound bus to my dad's house every other weekend when I was a kid and I thought I had just made this guy up in my sleepy early-morning state. It was usually a kid, always a boy though.
