This is near where I live. Since I'm a stay at home mom I don't have much time for ghost hunting these days, but I'd KILL to go just once! This is all various information I found around the internet. Unfortunately the website I originally found out about Hell's Playground is gone for some reason!
Directions: Take Highway 11 south, from Brodhead. Turn left on Highway 81 east. Take a right on S. Nelson Road. After passing W. Carrol Rd. (on the left), you will come to a small bridge that crosses over the Sugar River. A few feet before you reach the bridge, you will see a small path (on the left-hand side), that goes back into the woods. According to sources, this path will lead to Hell's Playground. The bad news is, it's at least a 2 mile hike. This is highly debated since a lot of people are at odds about whether it's located in Brodhead or in Avon.
At night, when the wind is still, you can hear children playing and the swings will be swinging. Sometimes a growl will be heard from out of nowhere. The story is, is that 2 children and an adult were murdered there. Be careful when going around the slide. That is where one of the kids were slaughtered.

In Brodhead, Wisconsin (where I live), there is a township named Avon. Avon is probably one of the scariest places to visit, because so much has happened there. There are about 5 scary things that I will list that ewveryone around Brodhead knows off the top of their finger. At the starting point to all these spots, the road is a creepy gravel road.
1). There is a bridge when you first enter the township. This bridge was trhe place where a Rockford hooker was all over 2 guys at a bar, and then they took her to the bridge and slaughtered her with a hammer. I was in 8th grade then. and a couple of my buddies went down there to see the place. Back then, before the renevated the bridge, there was bloody handprints all over the walls and concrete. On the concrete floor, was the bloody print of the hammer. Plus, there were still teeth all over the rocks, still with a little flesh on them (of course the police marked off the spot, but we got around that!). The bridge is haunted now, and there was a video footage of a ghost floating across the bridge. Also, on some night, you can hear a faint cry of a woman's voice. Scary stuff.
2). There is a swamp that resides a few miles down the road. Whenever a person ends up by themselves, they end up dying at the swamp. No one knows why; and no one dares to follow in the footsteps. Many believe that there is a "swamp" monster that resides in the swamp. Funny, but not when you are with a bunch of people walking by it in the dark. The swamp is also the place where the KKK use to meet. The KKK wouldve kept going (freedom of speech), until one night they decided to walk Avon with machine guns in their hands, on the gravel road. Since you cant be within 10 feet of the road with guns, they were immediatly broken up. But sometimes there are rumors that they still meet...
3). A few miles down the road, there is a place called Devil's Playground. A long time ago, there was a nice park that was in the backwoods all by itself. There was a boy and girl who were murdered, with their bodies left rot on the swing set. When night comes, the swing set starts to swing, even when its not windy, while a childish chant plays in the wind. This place is creepy as hell because the space in the woods for the playground is so small, and the rest is covered by the swamp and brush.
4). Even further dow, there is a church. On the church, there is a red neon cross that illuminates the whole ground in the front. The cross is very creepy because you can see it from a distance. They say the KKK meets there in secret when the cross is not lit up.
5). The graveyard. Probably one of the more feared sights. Here, there is a shed where an old man use to sit and watch the graveyard at night, until he died. Brodhead residents say that he still sits there, in the dark, not in human form. The graveyard is also scary because not only are the graves all messed up and rugged, but "shadow people" show up everywhere. For those who dont know what a shadow person is, its a shadow of a person in your imagination, so when you think its a person, it is really a tree or a shadow of someting else. Also, the red neon cross is shown in the distance, adding spice to atmosphere. No one goes back where the ending fence is because the shed is there, and people always get a weird feeling when approaching it.
My experience was this past saturday. My friends and I were at the bridge (I described in 1), taking pictures for my upcoming website. All was fine, until we heard the cry and moan in the distance. Then shadow people started to pop out everywhere, and the cry was still very faint. Scared shitless, we proceeded to take more pictures, and then, BANG! A sound of loudness filled the forest and bridge, making us pee our pants. The sound couldve been 1 of 4 things: A shotgun in the distance that echoed, A rock that was thrown towards us and hit a bunch of other rocks and smashed through the ice, A turkey that was awaken and flew out (it didnt sound like wings), or a person trying to sneak up on us and its foot fell through the ice. We didnt know what it was and we didnt sit there to find out. I almosthad a heart attack too because my damn jeep wouldnt start, and it has a brand new motor!! We were cashed for the night.
There are a bunch more sights to visit in Avon. The road is creepy as hell, hobo's live in the creeks and forests, scaring the shit out of every person who fish's or walks (they pop out to say 'hi';I had this done to me). There are also haunted houses and creepy hillbilly's that reside in Avon.
Brodhead is not that far from Rockford. Its about 30-45 minutes away, and its worth taking a look at. If anyone wants to come out, let me know. I have spring break next week, and my friends and I would love to give all of you a tour.
Let me know what you all think...
