Sigh. I'm so bored. Maybe Mommy will return soon. She told me to be good and that she loves me, and that was the last I heard from her. I don't know how long I've been lying here, but it feels like an eternity.
I wish I at least had someone to talk to. Or maybe some kind of game to play. I just hate being bored, it's no fun. I'm seven, I can't sit still. Mommy knew that, that's why I was always in trouble. "Destructive when bored," she used to say. I didn't mean to break the vase, or spill the soda everywhere, and I didn't know that those markers were permanent when I drew her the pretty picture on the wall. I just wanted her to see it. She especially hated it when I would throw the ball up the stairs and try to catch it. She yelled at me for it a lot, but I loved doing it. I couldn't go outside, she said there were bad people out there, so I played by myself. I had to stay on the first and second floor, I was never allowed to go into the basement. That was Mommy's "quiet place". Even then, I was bored, but not as bored as I am now.
I used to ask Mommy where Daddy went, and she would get so mad. She said that he was also "destructive when bored" like I was. She swears I get it from him. She said that Daddy left, and that he's never coming back. He's living in his own home now. I stopped asking after that.
One day, only a few days ago, I did something really bad. Well, I didn't think it was that bad, but boy was Mommy mad. I was throwing my bouncy ball up the stairs like I always do. She told me to stop but I just waited for her to leave the room and went right back to what I was doing. I threw my ball up and it bounced on one of the higher steps, off the wall, over the railing, and CRASH! It bounced against the cabinet in the hallway, the one filled with Mommy's nice cups and plates. Many of them fell on the floor, breaking into lots of little pieces. I was frozen in place, just waiting for the sound of her angry footsteps. Sure enough, she screamed at the top of her lungs and came lumbering into the hallway.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?" she screeched at me.
"I-I-I'm sorry! It was an accident-" I tried to say
She interrupted me, "I. Don't. Care! You were told to stop, why didn't you stop? Ugh, just like your father, destructive when bored." She ran her fingers through her hair, closing her eyes and sighing. I've never been more scared in my life. I was ready to be grounded, to have my toys taken away, even to be spanked, but she just looked me in the eyes and asked me a question I never thought I'd hear.
"Do you want to go live with Daddy?"
I couldn't believe it! I'd finally get to see my Daddy! I nodded eagerly, still afraid to speak. She grabbed my hand and led me to the basement door. Not only was I going to get to see Daddy, but I also got to go see what Mommy's quiet space looked like!
"We just have to do a few things first, then you can go see Daddy." She was almost smiling. A part of me wondered why she wasn't as angry, but maybe she just loves me that much.
She opened the door and told me to go down. It was dark, but there was a light switch that she flipped once she closed the door. There was a table with lots of weird looking things were down there, and some were kind of scary looking. I walked down the stairs and stood at the bottom, waiting for Mommy. She walked past me and asked me to sit in a chair. I looked around till I found a wooden chair and did as I was told. She fumbled around on the table and talked to herself, her back to me.
She turned back around and told me to put out my hand. I did, and she placed these weird looking green things in my hand. They looked like little rocks.
"It's okay, these are just candy. It's a special candy, one I've been saving. I know you'll like it. Go on, eat up!" she ushered, smiling at me. I trust Mommy so I ate the green candy. They tasted horrible but I ate them all. I felt sick, and my nose started bleeding. I started coughing and threw up. I fell out of the chair and laid on the floor. I remember looking up at Mommy, her smile so sweet. Then I fell asleep.
I woke up in a small space, and it was very dark. I heard Mommy's voice above me.
"There you go, sweetie. You're laying next to Daddy. Now, I love you. Be good."
Then it got quiet. I wish she would come back and see me, I'm so bored, and my new little home smells like dirt.
