It's 3 o'clock in the morning, and I can hear my daughter giggling.
This is the third night in a row I've been startled awake and it's really starting to drive me crazy.
Normally this wouldn't annoy a mother like myself who loves her daughter, especially since she's only three.... but when you need to get up early to feed your husband and then head off to work, by the third night, you're not so happy about the giggling.
I decide to wait to see if she stops, I didn't want her to start crying and lord knows when I'd sleep again.
An hour passes.
I lay there and groan at the repetitive sounds of my daughters continuing giggles. My husband lies beside me, looking peaceful in his sleep, snoring loudly.
'Lucky jerk.' I hiss.
Then suddenly, silence. No more giggles. Thank goodness. Relief washes over me and within seconds my eyelids grow heavy and I feel myself dosing off...
I hear the sweet voice of my daughter call out to me from down the hall. Her tiny feet can be heard making their way to our bedroom door, her soft giggles follow the sounds of her foot steps. A cold sweat begins to drip down my face as the fog of sleep begins to lift and my mind clears.
My daughter died two weeks ago, she suffered from leukaemia.
My daughter giggles at night and tonight she's coming to see me.
